Be in The Journey

“Begin The Journey”

Just this morning I’ve decided to expand these writings beyond the Lasso universe. Partly because I’ve finished the series and need a bit of a break before revisiting and mining for more nuggets of revelation. But it’s bigger than that. I am more than the accomplishment of finishing a series that a few months ago brought tears to my eyes simply in the contemplation of beginning again. It’s time to embrace the various facets of this crazy diamond and shine on. Speaking of beginning again…

On my ride this morning, the coach told her “Be In the Journey” story. It went a little something like this… She was on the beach one day and found a piece of driftwood she was going to use for block printing later. She knew the phrase she was going to carve into the wood, “Begin The Journey”. You see, she was at an inflection point in her life – she needed to get out of a relationship and find a new job. Pretty massive changes. I sat in the saddle thinking, “Girl, I can relate.” Can’t we all? Fast forward to the actual project; she’d done her carving, made the stamp, and stood back to admire her work when she realized she’d forgotten the “G” in the word “Begin”. So instead of saying “Begin the Journey” it said “Be in the Journey.”

While my G. will always be a part of me, her story morphed from one of omission to the embracing her new creation. Be in the journey. “You don’t have to begin the journey, because you’re already in it!” Yes ma’am. We’re all in our own journeys, whether we’re facing massive life changes by choice or not. So be in the journey. Embrace your own process of carving a new life, creating something new. It will likely look completely different than your mind’s eye. But that doesn’t make it any less beautiful.
